Whitney Goodman @sitwithwhit: My 2020 Roundup
What a year... Honestly, it's taken me a few days to regroup and figure out how I want to start this new year. For the first week it didn't even feel like a *new* year...just more of the same.
I could go on and on about the highs and lows of the year, I know we've all had them. But, I want to keep this short and sweet. I compiled a list of the people, books, podcasts, and lessons that helped me get through this year. Hope it helps you too.
My Favorite Books of 2020
Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents
If you grew up with distant, cold, rejecting, critical, or abusive parents, this book was written for you. It explains everything clearly and concisely. I loved it and recommend it to everyone.
This book was part of the research for my own book. It's well researched and clearly written. Excellent material on motivation, being "positive," and how to actually achieve what you want.
This was a fun read that I couldn't put down. Touches on salient themes of racism and makes you think.
Another fun read that allowed me to escape the depths of quarantine and pandemic life.
Warning, this book discusses and vividly describes domestic violence. I thought the author did a great job of helping the reader understand why people stay and how these dynamics can be both passed down and stopped.
My Favorite Podcasts of 2020
I would listen to this in the morning at the start of the pandemic as my only news source. It's factual, to the point, and allows you to get the news without feeling traumatized.
About an American woman who ended up living with her children and husband under ISIS control. Very interesting.
Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen
A con artist that preys on the entertainment industry for years.
A young girl goes missing in LA. A captivating true crime podcast.
The victims of Larry Nassar speak out and share their story.

What I Learned in 2020
We're way more resilient than we know, but it still sucks to have that theory tested.
I don't need as many people or things in my life as I thought I did.
Boundaries are the best gift I've ever given myself.
I don't have to react to everything that enters my mental orbit.
It's ok to change your mind.
What I Am Looking Forward to in 2021
*hopefully* going on trips with friends and seeing people more
Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine
Completing my first book!!
Getting therapists and clients back into The Collaborative for in-person therapy
I hope this helps you create your own list and maybe find some new books, podcasts, or inspiration. Have a great week!
