Is Your Bullshit Filter Working?
*WARNING* this post contains explicit language.
I want to talk about a serious topic. How well is your bullshit filter functioning?
I’m talking about that voice in your head that’s able to decipher between the absolute nonsense you convince yourself is true and reality.
As humans we are pretty crafty. We literally have the capability to convince ourselves of anything – negative or positive. Sometimes our bullshit filters can get out of wack and need a little fine-tuning. Going to a therapist for this tune up is usually the most effective way.
The next time you have a thought that sounds a little, well, off, I want you to put that BS on trial like you are the most badass lawyer there is. Ask yourself these questions (by the best @byronkatie):
Is it true? (Come up with some evidence for and against the thought. You cannot believe it if there is reasonable doubt. It’s the law!)
Do I absolutely know it’s true?
How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
Who would you be without the thought?
Signs Your BS filter is Out of Wack:
You ignore the good ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Things feel like a reallyyyyy big deal all the time
You think you can predict what people think about you
What you say to yourself usually contradicts what other people say about you
You tend to choose what is comfortable, over what is good for you
Don’t believe everything you think.
