Do You Love Chaos?

Chaos can be so enticing. Many people are seduced by it. It makes them feel alive.

The more chaos becomes familiar, the more the mind becomes wired for drama.

Chaos and drama can produce excitement and a thrill, but often leave people feeling withdrawn, exhausted, and craving more.

Chaos may feel safe if you grew up in a family that was constantly in crisis.

Crisis also makes us feel needed. It allows us to abandon the self and immerse ourselves in a problem. We “can’t” focus on ourselves because there’s just so much we “must handle.”

Crisis becomes a diversion or a distraction. You may be constantly drawn to people in crisis or chaotic events at your own expense.⠀⠀⠀⠀

Repeat after me:

  • I will let go of the need to be needed.

  • I will let go of the need to be accepted.

  • I will let go of the need to fix everything.

  • The high of chaos does not mean I’m more alive.

Intensity does not mean you are more alive – Miami Therapist

People are increasingly seduced into believing that intensity equals being alive. When that happens, the mind becomes wired for drama

“This type of life may produce heart-pounding excitement, but the absence of this addictive energy can bring about withdrawal, fear, and restlessness that is unbearable.” Keith lee

We never felt safe in our family of origin and the only thing we knew for sure was that nothing was for sure. Life was totally unpredictable and we became conditioned to living in chaos.

Once engaged in someone else’s crisis we abandon ourselves and often develop resentments, especially if it is someone we love or are close to. Family chaos is the ‘best’ because it’s so familiar and we can really get off on it.

Have chaos and drama become your drug of choice?

  • Maybe you find it hard to stay away from drama (family chaos is the best – it’s so familiar)…

  • Maybe you love the high that comes from uncertainty…

  • Maybe you get bored when things are too calm…

Repeat after me:

  • I will let go of the need to be needed.

  • I will let go of the need to be accepted.

  • I will let go of the need to fix everything.

  • The high of chaos does not mean I’m more alive.
